Painting walls does not have to be a single tone (e.g., satin or semi-gloss). Painting stripes, for example, with semi-gloss on a satin wall in the SAME color can give a subtle and elegant look to a space.

Also, a room does not have to be a single color. Using a contrasting color or a complimentary color that is a few shades lighter or darker on an accent wall can be a dramatic effect.
